Aunty Nichole by James Hollingsworth
The painting is of my Aunty Nichole holding a sign from the BLM protests.
It includes a quote from Angela Davis, a key activist during the American Civil Rights Movement.
I was particularly inspired by Kehinde Wiley and the halos commonly seen in Christian Renaissance art.
The painting is an admiration for the light she shines into our local community, but also on a wider scale as a testament of black voices and figures.
Which I believe to be especially important to continue to uphold as we move past the protests.
And make sure that as a society we communicate and understand racism in all its forms.
So that we may be able to push forward into an anti-racist society.
