Saturday 19th September 1-3pm
Outside Holloway Prison, on Parkhurst Road, N7 0SF
The former Holloway Prison site is the largest development project in Islington for over 30 years and will be of huge significance to London for generations to come. We must get the absolute best for our community from this project. That includes social housing, green and community spaces. As well as a Women's Building and services, to be a positive legacy for what was Europe’s largest women’s prison. All built to the highest environmental standards.
But there are concerns these essential goals are slipping...
So this Saturday, from 1-3pm, join other members of the local community who are making their own individual personal visual statements. A Placard Parade will form along the hoardings outside the prison. People will hold up placards expressing their views about the future of the site. Bring your own placard from home, make one on the day (materials provided).
On Saturday Peabody (the site's developer) are sending a representative to the Placard Parade to hear people's concerns. They will take voice recordings of your views - this is a great opportunity to have your voice heard. Say what you think, but please be polite.
We want everyone to be Covid safe and legally compliant. We have checked the latest government regulations and liaised with local police. We will encourage those attending to adhere to social distancing and remain 2m apart, unless they attend as a family/bubble. People will line up along the prison's hoardings and remain static. No groups should form and nobody should 'mingle'. Some people have volunteered to be marshals and will wear high vis tabards - please follow any instructions they give. One of them will have a heat sensing thermometer, that can check people's body temperature from a distance to ensure nobody has a fever. They will also hand out masks, gloves and sanitiser where needed, but please bring and wear your own mask.
Attend and have your voice heard, but stay safe and stay legal.
